HOW TO BUILD TAMIYA'S 1:32 Vought F4U-1A & F4U-1D Corsair. When Tamiya released their 1:32 scale Spitfire Mk.IXc in 2009, they set a new standard for plastic model kits. Each model since then has seen incremental improvements. Just when you think the series can't get any better, Tamiya goes and proves you wrong. [ADH code ADH177] Their 1:32 scale Birdcage Corsair was released in mid-2013. This was an outstanding kit in every respect. Tamiya expanded their 1:32 scale Corsair family with an F4U-1A in late 2014. This kit included several new sprues and offered a wider range of camouflage and marking possibilities. Tamiya has now completed the -1 trio with their new 1:32 scale F4U-1D Corsair. Once again, this kit includes a significant number of brand new sprues to depict the unique attributes of this variant. We can also marvel at the kit's subtle surface textures, high level of detail, clever parts breakdown and accuracy. Vought F4U-1 Corsairs White 29 BuNo 17684 VF-17 Jan 31 1944 Pilot: Lt.(jg) Ira "Ike" Kepford. This is the second aircraft flown by the 16 victory ace, but the first to be numbered "29". White 3 BuNo Unknown VF-17 Feb 1944 Pilot: Lt.(jg) James "Big Jim" Streig. He flew two tours with VF-17 and is credited with 5.5 confirmed victories. L.A. City Limits BuNo Unknown VF-17 Mar 1944 Pilot: Lt.(jg) Doris C. "Chico" Freeman. He would claim two victories with VF-17 and an additional seven with VF-84. NZ5248 BuNo 56455 No. 21 Squadron RNZAF May 1945 Pilot unknown. This is one of at least three Corsairs marked with the "Enraged duck", it saw service with a number of different RNZAF squadrons.

Vought F4U Corsair Salvador 1. FG-1D. Unit: Escuadrilla 2, Escuadron Caza Bombardeo, Fuerza Aerea Salvadorena. Serial: FAS-205. Circa 1965. The second batch of FG-1D's supplied to El Salvador wore a camouflage in dark blue. It remains unclear if this was the same 'mid-nite' as used on FAH Corsairs, or some other shade. The example depicted here, serialled '205', also had the FAS insignia applied behind the engine cowling. Despite intensive efforts on the part of FAS technicians, the FG-1D '205; did not become operational during the 1969 War. 2. Goodyear FG-1D. Unit: Escuadrilla 2, Escuadron Caza Bombardeo, Fuerza Aerea Salvadorena. Serial: FAS-220 El Salvador, middle of 1960's. 3. FG-1D. Unit: Escuadrilla 2, Escuadron Caza Bombardeo, Fuerza Aerea Salvadorena. Serial: FAS-201 (BuNo.67087) Circa 1965. Earlier in the 1960s, the FAS FG-1 Corsairs were painted in Gull Gray overall, and had the large service title applied on the sides of the rear fuselage, as well as national colours on the rudder and wingtips. This aircraft was not operational in 1969. 4. Goodyear FG-1D. Unit: Escuadrilla 2, Escuadron Caza Bombardeo, Fuerza Aerea Salvadorena. Serial: FAS-220. 5. Goodyear FG-1D. Unit: Escuadron de Caza, Fuerza Aerea Salvadorena. Serial: FAS-215 (BuNo.92629). Circa 1968. 6. FG-1D. Unit: Escuadrilla 2, Escuadron Caza Bombardeo, Fuerza Aerea Salvadorena. Serial: FAS-207 (BuNo.92460) Ilopango AB, 1969. The markings painted crudely over American. 7. Goodyear FG-1D. Unit: Escuadrilla 2, Escuadron Caza Bombardeo, Fuerza Aerea Salvadorena. Serial: FAS-219 FAS FG-1 was this example that has got an even heavier camouflage. The aircraft was most likely originally painted Gull-Gray overall: this colour was left only on the undersides, while the upper sides have got a heavy disruptive pattern in Light and Forrest Green. Note the yellow identification stripes were retained. The FAS-219 was shot down by Honduran AAA, on 17 July 1969. 8. Goodyear FG-1D. Unit: Escuadron de Caza, Fuerza Aerea Salvadorena. Bent Wing Birds Pt.3: Korean War Rescue. For Revell 1/72 Vought F4U-4 Corsair. Markings for 2 Aircraft. Set is for any 1/72 F4U-4 Corsair kit. Sheet includes markings for 2 aircraft. December 4, 1950, aircraft from VF-32 was providing air support for the US Marines by the Chosin Reservoir. Ens. Jessie Brown crash landed due to ground fire. With the SAR Helicopter 15 min. away, Lt. J.G. Thomas Hunder Jr, landed his Corsair by Ens. Browns' downed aircraft and attempted to remove him from the plane and prevent his capture. Despite his attempts and the crew of the SAR Helicopter, Ens. Brown did not survive. For his efforts, Lt. Hunder was awarded the Medal of Honor and Ens. Brown was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Ens. Brown was the first USN Officer to lose his life in the Korean Conflict. Markings for both men's Corsair's are included.
