Three aircraft types seem to have been competing of the imaginary 'best WW2 fighter' title, the Hawker Tempest, P-51D Mustang, which were flying on the Western Front, and the third one is an aircraft of a completely different concept, a light weight, Soviet-built and highly manoeuvrable fighter, the Yak-3. And at least, this one can be called the very best of the Eastern Front. It was made famous not just by Soviet fighter pilots, but also by those flying with the Normandy-Niemen regiment.
